Fundamentals to basic of Wheel Throwing forms

This 5 week course is aimed at beginners, providing you with a grounding in wheel throwing techniques, as well as the information and resources to enable you to continue the practice beyond the course. You will work on basic form that is, Cylinder, which is the foundation and base for any forms of pottery on the wheel, Exploring the preparation of clay, Basic techniques of making a cylinder. Recycling of clay. Basic introduction to Glazing and firing your finished pieces and Some tips and tricks of using different techniques and process of working with clay gradually building in complexity as the course progresses.  What’s Included: In this course we’ll be exploring basic forms of pottery on the wheel as explained above. There will be a session on glazing your pieces at the end of the course, and you can glaze your pieces using studio glaze and they will be fired here at the studio. We will also provide you with guidance about the tools and equipment you will need to facilitate your new passion beyond the course, as well as suppliers and contacts for your practice. Please note you will be working on an electric wheel. The course price includes all materials, Apron, 10kg Clay, Glazes used for your pieces, firing chargers of the selected ones by your instructor, 10 sessions of tuition and 6 sessions of Open studios.  Course Structure: This course will run over 5 consecutive weeks taking place on the same day and time every week, with sessions lasting 2.5 hrs. Glazing session will be decided according to you finishing your final pieces. There will be a maximum of 6 students per class, ensuring that each get focused teaching time. Your final pieces will be ready for collection approximately 10 days after your final session.  Payments: The course must be paid for in advance. Payment details will be sent to you.  Cancellation and refunds: If you wish to cancel the booking, you must do so at least 1 week before it starts to receive a full refund. If you cancel your place less than 7 days before the course starts, you will not receive a refund. Alternatively you can reschedule and book onto another course, informing us 7 days before your course.  

I'm Bhavya. The Potter's Place was born out of my passion for pottery. I began my journey and work with clay at the Clay Station Pottery Studio back in 2019 and I instantly fell in love with it. I started with hand-building and slowly worked towards my interest which was being able to learn throwing on the wheel. I soon started to learn to wheel throw under the direction of Aastha Sahal and one and a half year later, I am working(learning never ends) towards my dream of becoming a full-time potter.    My main aim is to share the joy of pottery that I experience with others and to refine my craft in my own studio, wanting to experiment with new techniques and to teach whatever little I have learned till now. Through the studio, I aim at creating a community studio - a platform and a space - where experts and amateurs can learn, share and enjoy this art form in its truest form. This studio is a place where potters from across the city can come together and practice, work and learn from one another. Knowing this journey will definitely teach me more and more.
